Odyssey White Ice 5

How does it look behind the ball?

What to say about the Odyssey White Ice 5...?

Before I start with this description, I'll let you know that I'm not usually a fan of D shaped putters, and this one was no exception. Apart from its shape what really put me off was the fact that you can't see all of hitting surface at address. Just as in the picture here, the shaft bend covers the heel.

on an Odyssey White Ice 5...

Also when I found the curved shape of the sole made it feel disconcertingly as if the heel was always raised off the ground.

This also gave the visual impression that the sight line was pointing left all the time. Not a good thing, I'm sure you'll agree

How does it feel?

However when you strike a putt with the Odyssey White Ice 5, all these little problems are instantly forgivable - the feel is so soft and yet so direct that you feel very "connected" to each and every putt - the ball doesn't jump off the face in the slightest.

OK, I might be going over the top here, but the feel you get off this putter is almost electric!

How does it roll the ball?

The roll was awesome too. No jumping, twitching or misbehaving of any kind.

The more I tried this putter out, the more I began to realize that the insert is all that I liked about it. Because the same insert is available in many other putter shapes, I came to the conclusion that I should look at the rest of the range to find a shape you actually like!

Verdict - great feel, but not the best design in the White Ice series - best-putter.com prefers ...
White Ice Number 1
Black Series iX Number 1
White Ice 2-Ball
White Ice 2-Ball blade

Others to consider:

Ping Redwood Anser - The classic design is hard to beat.
Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Studio Select - The affordable and brilliant Cameron.
Yes C-Groove Donna - The C-Groove roll is about as good as you'll ever find.

Odyssey 2 Ball Odyssey 2 Ball The iconic putter of the 2000s - easy to aim, great feel

Odyssey Backstryke Odyssey Backstryke One of the most revolutionary designs in putting. Love it or hate the look, the results are good

Odyssey White Hot 5 Odyssey White H 5 Larger than average blade with original White Hot insert... beautiful to look at and great feel.

Odyssey White Ice 5 Odyssey White Ice 5 Classic face balanced D shape with silky soft Ice White insert!

Odyssey 2 Ball Blade Odyssey 2 Ball Blade Padraig Harrington used this combination of blade and 2 ball design to win majors, but what's it like?

Odyssey Black iX 1 Odyssey Black iX 1 Perhaps Odyssey's best effort yet to eclipse the Scotty Cameron and Ping Ansers.

Odyssey PT 82 Odyssey PT 82 Brought out to cash in on Phil Mickelson's move to Callaway and Odyssey in 2009. A limited edition putter, which is lovely to look at and has the best-feeling insert on the market

Odyssey White Ice Progressive Terron Mid Odyssey White Ice Progressive Terron Mid Sharp edged star ship of a putter - you need to like futuristic shapes to use this one!
